The 6th Guangdong Modern Dance Festival 2009.7.25 - 8.01
A Unique Cultural Event in China     An International Window of the Art of Dance
 
Since its inauguration in 2004, the Guangdong Modern Dance Festival has successfully gained national and international recognitions as the best modern dance festival in China. Every year, hundreds of young Chinese choreographers and dancers will gather in Guangzhou to premiere their new works in the Festival. The festival has featured the forefront international modern dance innovators, and has grown into a hub of Chinese modern dance development where new ideas are turned into reality.
 
The Festival is unique in its achievement in enhancing exchanges and understanding; as well as the pursuance of excellence in modern dance creation. It consists of four major parts:
1. The Masterclass Sweatshop ¨C in which choreographers and dancers give master classes to Festival participants over six consecutive mornings;
2. The Youth Dance Marathon (YDM) - an open platform for young artists to present new works over 5 consecutive afternoons ¨C a format borrowed from fringe festivals in other countries.
3. The Springboard, a platform for emerging and established artists to present experimental and visionary artistic works.
4. The Main Stage ¨C evening performances of professional companies.
